Cover scalp scars and maximize the results of your hair transplant
We know that scarring can impact your appearance and confidence. Scalp micropigmentation was not originally developed to treat scars, but its usefulness in concealing FUE & FUT hair transplant scars, and trauma scars can be life changing.
The results of scalp micropigmentation for covering scars are nothing short of astonishing. SMP is the simplest, quickest, and most cost-effective solution to visible scars on the scalp. It offers an effective way to minimize the appearance of scars and boost confidence.
Even large scars on the scalp can be effectively camouflaged in just hours. In the majority of cases, SMP can minimize the appearance of scars so well that they are undetectable to the eye. See the Scar Gallery for examples.
For those who have undergone hair transplants, the scars can be very visible. This can sometimes cause more anxiety than the original hair loss did. Surgeons are still faced with challenges that prevent optimal results without visible scarring.
The 4 most common problems seen in hair transplantation are:
- Hard to conceal scars
- Accurately predicting the final extent of hair loss
- Significant scarring in both the donor and recipient zones
- Lack of donor hair to create a hairline and full scalp coverage
Scalp micropigmentation after a hair transplant
Scalp micropigmentation can be a valuable option for individuals who have a depleted donor supply after hair transplant surgery and who cannot otherwise get the final results they need.
SMP can be used to conceal the contrast between the transplanted hair and the scalp. This gives the appearance of a fuller head of hair, and can greatly reduce the visibility of any scarring by replicating hair follicles on the scar and making it blend in seamlessly with the rest of your hair.
How old should a scar be before getting SMP?
You should never apply SMP to a scar with less than 6 months of healing, but we find the best results after a year. The best results are achieved once scars have healed and flattened, so the ink applied to the skin during SMP treatments does not fade or migrate under the skin during healing.
